Skydive (1)

Meet some of our intrepid skydivers!

The jump takes place on 24 June

Five amazing people will be jumping out of a plane at on 24 June to raise money for the Centre! Who are these brave (crazy?) people? Why would they do that to themselves?!

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be introducing the Skydiving team to you. This week, we’re featuring two people who you may well recognise from the Centre, Alex and Stevie, as well as Ruth, whose brother-in-law Dominic is a member here.

Alex

Doing a Skydive has been on my bucket list for a while. I really want to give back to the Centre as the Centre has supported me so much. Originally from Italy, I was diagnosed with MS 22 years ago now and I am also legally blind.

I first visited BMSTC in September 2022 and since then I have attended Pilates and other physio classes as well as oxygen. I feel like I’ve been here for years. I am also going to start helping with collections – giving back is the key word for me!

Stevie

This is my second Skydive for the Centre! The first time, I was petrified when I was sitting on the edge but then when I jumped, it was brilliant! You can see the horizon and going through the clouds is amazing.

This time I’m actually paying extra to jump from 15,000 feet rather than 10,000 feet – 15,000 is the highest tandem Skydive you can do in the UK so that’s why I wanted to do it!

I’m doing this to support the Centre because the Centre supports me. I’ve been coming here since 2007 for oxygen and physiotherapy and I’m planning a massage soon. The next challenge I’d love to do would be a wing walk!

Ruth

I heard about the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre from my brother-in-law Dominic, who got diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS back in August last year. It was a big shock to all the family. The Centre has been an amazing hub for the family to find out information and support for Dominic.   He goes there every Tuesday for Oxygen therapy and has made some new friends there.

It was Dominic who asked if I would do the Skydive with him as he really wanted to show his support and gratitude for the Centre and the staff there. I thought about it for a few days and and then agreed to join him. It’s a great cause and I turn 40 next January and have decided life is too short and to grab life by the ‘bits’.  Sadly we have learnt recently that Dominic can’t get signed off by the doctors to do the Skydive, so there is no way I am backing out now. I need to do this for myself as well as him.

We will be profiling the rest of our Skydiving team next week. We would like to wish all our Skydivers all the very best of luck with the jump on 24 June. And we’d love to hear from anyone who would like to do any kind of challenge to raise funds for the Centre. Email samantha@bmstc.org or call 0118 901 6000.
