AskSARA – online self help service

September 17, 2025 | Pippa Vincent-Cooke

Some of our local councils have licenced a free online self help service called AskSARA. The site is full of practical solutions to help you stay independent in your own home and has advice for older people and those living with a disability.

AskSARA is a free service and there’s no sign-up required so it is completely anonymous. It can help to give you:

  • ideas and tips about ways to make your life easier
  • details of where to find products and technologies that might help you and your health
  • links to local charities and community services for extra support

There are equipment suggestions and an impartial list of where to get equipment from, as well as information on local community support and wellbeing concerns including help preparing food, bathing, remembering to take medicine and drinking enough water. AskSARA may also recommend an occupational therapy assessment.

Whether you’re a resident, family member, or carer, AskSARA is open to everyone. You can choose to print or email yourself a copy of your personalised report and reference it whenever needed. The service is currently licenced by Reading Borough Council, Wokingham Borough Council, Slough Borough Council and Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
