Our volunteers make our Centre run: not only do they donate £150,000 worth of time each year keeping the Centre open but it simply wouldn’t be the same without them. Some roles may require you to have a DBS check and training will always be provided.
We look forward to welcoming you to the team.
Here are some of the things our volunteers do. We are not always searching for every role but please get in touch to see how you can get involved.
Trustees
Trustees oversee everything a charity does, from setting its strategy to being responsible for its work and finances. The day-to-day operations of the Centre are delegated to staff and the trustees play a vital role in steering the direction the charity is heading. They’re volunteers with big responsibilities but being a trustee is a rewarding way to make a difference. As a trustee, you’ll develop new skills and experience while contributing your ideas and knowledge to an organisation.
If you want to join our Board, please contact our chairman, Neil Dawkins, for an informal chat at neil@bmstc.org or call 0118 901 6000.
Oxygen Operator
Oxygen therapy is one of our most popular treatments. As we have the only oxygen chamber in Berkshire, it is always in demand and you will see first-hand the difference it makes. Don’t worry, you will be fully trained and there will always be a second oxygen operator on hand. Due to the time it takes to train, we ask for a minimum of 12 months commitment from our volunteers.
Receptionist
As you walk into the Centre you will meet one of our friendly, volunteer receptionists. They do so many things including booking appointments, greeting visitors and answering the phone, our receptionists play a vital role central to all we do. We are currently looking for ‘relief’ receptionists to cover when needed. This is ideal for people who cannot make a regular commitment but are able to help occasionally.
Collectors
Our champion collectors head out to towns, supermarkets and rail stations with their collection tins and buckets raising money and vital awareness for us. This year they will raise over £10,000 to support the Centre.
By donating just two hours you will help make sure our life-changing works happens – will you join us?
Check out our events pages to find upcoming collections.
Other volunteers
We have some fantastic people with a variety of skills that we benefit from including IT support, DIY, event volunteers and looking after our shop, as well as offering social activities. If you have a skill that you think will help the Centre please get in touch.
