Accessible rooms & wet rooms galore!
It was that time of year again – for Nigel’s annual checkup with his neurologist at the National Hospital. This appointment also coincided with our planned trip to the Royal Opera House to see the ballet ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ .
We decided to try out a new (2 years old) Premier Inn. The location was perfect – opposite the Coliseum and ideal for theatre breaks or meeting friends.
We used public transport throughout. Nigel travelled in his electric wheelchair using first the local Reading bus service and then the excellent assisted travel service from Reading station to Paddington and then the accessible London buses using his disabled bus & rail passes.
Room 425 on the 4th floor of the hub by Premier Inn was large and fully accessible. The facilities were very modern and beat all the other hotels we have tried in London.
Lighting & air conditioning was controlled by ‘touch button’ technology from our 6ft bed as was the TV. The wet room was ‘spot on’ with non- slip flooring, shower chair, 2 shower heads, support bars, raised toilet & wheelchair height wash basin.
Free tea & coffee & also snacks were available 24 hours downstairs in the bar/ lounge area and the staff were very friendly & helpful at all times. A breakfast menu was available.
Checkout is 12 noon which suits us as we are not early risers!
We paid a very reasonable £126 for the room but this will rise in the peak season.
