Exercise Referral Programme in Wokingham Borough

August 13, 2025 | Pippa Vincent-Cooke

People with MS can potentially benefit from the Exercise Referral Programme run by Places Leisure in leisure centres across the borough of Wokingham. The scheme aims to support people living with long term health conditions, such as MS, to increase their physical activity and improve health and wellbeing.

You have to be referred to the scheme by a healthcare professional, such as our physiotherapy team here at the Centre, and you get a supported 12 week gym programme, which includes one to one sessions and a personalised fitness plan. The gym membership costs £36 a month which is discounted from a normal gym membership (usually £55) but you still get access to all of the classes, the gym and the swimming pools. The leisure centres involved are;

  • Wokingham Leisure Centre
  • Bulmershe Leisure Centre, Woodley
  • Loddon Valley Leisure Centre, Lower Earley
  • Arborfield Leisure Centre
  • Ryeish Green Leisure Centre, near Spencers Wood

A number of our members use this service and talk positively about it. You do not have to live in the borough of Wokingham to access this programme – they will support anyone who can get to any of the above leisure centres.

If you think this programme would be appropriate for you, please get in touch with your physiotherapist or email anwen@bmstc.org to talk about referral.
