As you may have heard, earlier this week we took the difficult decision to close the Centre on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June due to the Red Warning issued by the Met Office for extreme heat.
Everyone with appointments on these days has been contacted.
We did not take this decision to close the Centre lightly. However, the Red Warning indicates a high risk to life and advises people to avoid travelling where possible. Whilst we appreciate the Centre itself is air conditioned and at optimal temperature, the risk involved in travel and getting to the Centre is considered too high especially for vulnerable people with health conditions.
Many local schools and other buildings have closed due to the Red Warning and some local transport services have been cancelled.
We have also consulted the engineer who services our oxygen equipment who advised that temperatures are too high for the oxygen equipment to run safely. The temperature in the oxygen chamber itself is also incredibly high, which would prove very uncomfortable for users.
At the moment we plan to reopen for all activities on Friday 26 June. If this changes due to weather conditions, we will contact anyone affected.
