Goodbye to our volunteer oxygen operator Tony

May 2, 2023 | Southmedia

Thank you Tony for over 20 years of volunteering

We are very sad this week to be saying goodbye and thank you to our volunteer oxygen operator, Tony, as he is moving away from Reading to live nearer family.

Tony has been a volunteer operator at the Centre for 22 years! After working in engineering, he found himself at a loose end once he’d retired. After a chance conversation with our former trustee Penny at their local bowls club, he found out about the Centre and our need for volunteer oxygen operators. He signed up for the role, did the training, and hasn’t looked back!

Tony says, “The people here really inspire me. Even though there is no cure for MS, people stay cheerful and optimistic and I couldn’t have asked for a better volunteering position. I’ve got an enormous amount out of it.  It’s made a massive difference to me and I will keep coming back to visit.”

Thank you Tony for all the oxygen sessions you have provided for our members (our volunteer operators have collectively provided over 60,000 treatments to over 1000 people during Tony’s time at the Centre!), it’s so greatly appreciated. We will miss you but we wish you all in the best in your new home!
