In light of the Beacon database breach we recently informed you about (see here for details), we thought it would be good to share information about spam calls, texts and emails with our members.
The Ofcom website gives very useful and detailed advice on this issue. Ofcom is the regulator for communication services such as broadband, phones, TV, radio and the postal service.
If you think you’ve received a scam call, text or message, the most important thing is not to engage with it. Don’t reply, click any links, press any buttons or share personal or financial details.
There are ways in which you can safely report spam calls, texts and messages. If you think you have been scammed and have already shared information or sent money, you should contact your bank or card provider immediately and not use any banking apps on your phone until you know it is safe to do so.
