The Government set out the new laws it plans to introduce, in the King’s Speech.

Here are the key points you need to know:

  • Employment rights are set to be strengthened – with plans to make flexible working and protection from unfair dismissal available from day one in a new role.
  • Statutory sick pay would also be improved under the plans – made available from the first day you are absent, and to those on lower incomes.
  • The Equality (Race and Disability) Bill will require employers with over 250 employees to report on their disability pay gaps. The Bill would also enshrine equal pay for disabled people in law.
  • Improvements to the NHS will focus on reducing waiting list times and prevention – including banning tobacco sales for people born after 2009.
