Samantha Harper: The Reading Half Marathon and the Green Park Challenge have been a highlight of our event calendar for many years. For our runners, months of dedicated hard work have gone into both training and fundraising for the event. Obviously, everyone is disappointed that this morning’s race has not gone ahead but, considering the conditions, we fully back the decision to cancel. Safety always is and always will be the first priority.
So what happens now? Well, we will adapt and overcome! For every one of our half marathon runners who shows that they have completed the 13.1 mile distance, a medal awaits you along will a special BMSTC goody bag. We will have a special finish line (sticky back plastic and PVA glue at the ready) at the Centre so our runners can collect their medals in appropriate style. To the Green Park Challenge runners, we will be there to support you on your new race day. To our volunteers who were willing to give up their day and the warmth to support us, thank you. We will ensure there will be a goody bag waiting for you too!
Without our committed fundraisers there is no Centre. Their fundraising is the reason the local MS community has access to the support we provide. We have been blown away by this year’s team and it has been a pleasure to get to know them. To be race ready and to have it taken away is hard – imagine someone cancelling Christmas on Christmas morning. Let’s support them as they are tested one more time.
Jenny and Katie (pictured with Pip and Colby!) were disappointed they couldn’t complete the Sage Reading Half Marathon and Green Park Challenge but they have big plans to cover the distance including Reading Half 2019. With a year to train I am sure they will win!
Thank you so much to everyone who supported them, including Gift Aid they have raised over £5,500. Read their story here.
