People with MS who eat a diet rich in vegetables, fruit, and lean proteins may experience slight improvements in physical disability scores over time, a study suggests.
Researchers also found that patients who did not stick closely to a healthy eating plan saw their disability scores slightly worsen over the course of a year.
A healthy diet has gained significant interest in the MS community because it is easy to adopt and is known to influence inflammation, metabolism, and neurodegeneration. However, few robust studies have examined whether adhering to a specific diet affects patient outcomes.
While the research suggests better clinical outcomes in people who follow a healthy eating plan, researchers emphasised that the findings are exploratory and more studies are needed.
