Update from the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre – 29 October

Your weekly update

Hi everyone,

Pip has kindly ‘lent’ me her blog this week so I can continue to update you whilst she is away on her not-so-sunny holiday.

It has been a hectic week for the fundraising team. Tuesday saw a new matched funding initiative beginning with Localgiving. Donations (up to £75 this week, and up to £5,000 next week) will be doubled but only if made via Localgiving. Read more about it here: https://www.bmstc.org/blog/get-your-donations-doubled

We have been writing out all the raffle tickets brought online. You can find out about how you can win £1,000 in John Lewis vouchers here: https://www.bmstc.org/winterdraw2020. (You will need to be quick as the deadline is on Wednesday).

We also have received a very generous cheque through the post from a person unknown. We have been lucky enough to have received several anonymous donations online too – you are genuinely anonymous and we don’t know who you are but please know we are very grateful.

Infection rates continue to grow locally and the weekend saw Slough enter Tier 2 for coronavirus restrictions. We want to reassure you that when we planned treatments, we had a ‘high risk’ situation in mind and are confident in the procedures we have in place to keep you and our team safe. We are monitoring the situation incredibly closely. You can read about how we are keeping you safe and what we are asking you to do here: https://www.bmstc.org/steps-we-have-taken-keep-you-safe-centre. It is incredibly important that if you have been asked to isolate or are demonstrating any possible Covid-symptoms please do not attend your appointments at the Centre.

Which brings me onto oxygen treatment. I would like to update you on our oxygen news and to lay out how some of the things are going to work once it resumes. The engineer is booked to come to the Centre on Monday and we hope the insurance ‘sign-off’ will follow swiftly. If you are planning to attend the oxygen treatment when it returns, please take a few minutes to read this page: https://www.bmstc.org/blog/oxygen-update-0. Please note that until we have the insurance sign off we cannot guarantee a start date or take bookings. I appreciate everyone is eager to go so please have a read of the oxygen blog post so you are ready to start.

Finally, don’t forget that our counselling service continues. With the clocks going back, the nights have got much darker much earlier and I don’t know about you, but I find this time of year makes me feel much more gloomy. If you find you could do with a bit more support at the moment we have a new mindfulness class starting on 4 November and our counselling service is very much still available. Find out more: https://www.bmstc.org/blog/ms-and-mindfulness

We look forward to having Pip back next week.
