Winter Survival Course

Winter Survival course: 6 weeks of targeted relaxation and Mindfulness

November 12, 2021 | Southmedia

Join us as we try to banish those winter blues

It’s striking to see how the seasons influence us. I’m always surprised how people’s problems lift and almost evaporate when the warmth and light of the sun return in spring. It’s not that the problems vanish but somehow, they are seen in a different light becoming more manageable or bearable.

Conversely, winter is a difficult season for many. Although the change isn’t so striking, as it seems to slowly descend upon you unnoticed.  Lowering your mood, stealing your interest or pleasure in everyday activities. And robbing you of your energy and positivity. It can often feel worse if you live alone, are already struggling or if you also have negative associations with the Christmas period.

This effect in its extreme form is a diagnosable type of depression known as seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or winter depression. Many people experience a more subtle yet equally significant change as winter draws close.

If you know you struggle in winter and would like to do something to prevent it. Join our 6-week winter survival course. It’s based on our online relaxation and mindfulness course and will bring you together with other BMSTC members to study and practice ways to change, understand and gain greater control over how you think and feel.

This 6-week course, suitable for beginners or experienced meditators, takes place on Wednesday mornings at 9.30am over Zoom. In the three weeks leading up to Christmas, you will learn all of the new practices. The course resumes in the new year with 3 more sessions to deepen your understanding and build your motivation and confidence to practice on your own. Leaving you to start the New Year with a regular practice to help stave off the winter blues.

On completion of the course, ongoing support and learning will be available by joining the relaxation and mindfulness practice class which meets online every 2 weeks on Wednesday mornings at 10.30 am

Class dates: Wednesday 8, 15 & 22 December 2021 and 5, 12, 19 January 2022 (No class on 29 December 2021). Classes will take part at 9.30am.
