Last year, we reported on a study being carried out into the benefits of oxygen therapy for people with MS.
The researchers from Glasgow Caledonian University have contacted us to report back on their initial findings.
The key messages were;
- 125 people with MS across the UK completed the survey, 99 of whom were currently receiving oxygen therapy
- 76% were female and the majority were aged 45-64 years.
- Almost 90% received their oxygen therapy at an MS Centre
- Over 60% of respondents had had over 100 oxygen sessions, more than 11% over 1000 sessions
- In terms of symptom management – 83% felt that oxygen therapy improved fatigue, 55% depression, 51% pins and needles/tingling and 5% bladder symptoms
- There were few adverse effects
- Most people read, listened to music or did breathing exercises in the chamber
- Respondents were also positive about the social aspects of attending oxygen therapy

The researchers have said they will share the full final research paper with us in due course.
