Nordic Walking

October 23, 2024 | Pippa Vincent-Cooke

Our physiotherapy team are looking into the possibility of running Nordic Walking sessions for members at some point in the future, subject to funding, and they would like to see if this is something that would be of potential interest to our members.

Nordic Walking is an enhanced walking technique that uses specially designed poles to work the upper body as well as legs. It provides a highly effective all over workout and can be adapted to be enjoyed at many levels, at low, medium or high intensity. Nordic Walking is a fun and social activity that can be enjoyed in town centres or open countryside throughout the year.

Research has shown that Nordic Walking can:

  • Improve posture and gait.
  • Strengthen back and abdominal muscles.
  • Maintain neuroplasticity of the brain and positively challenge coordination.
  • Provide stability through the use of specially designed poles and the correct Nordic Walking technique.
  • Improve both upper body and lower body strength, as well as increasing bone density.
  • Boost cardiovascular and general fitness.
  • Provide an opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and the sociability of being in a group.

Please let us know if you would be interested in potential Nordic Walking sessions by filling out our survey below. Sessions would be suitable for anyone who is able to walk outside for 20 minutes outside (this can be with regular rest breaks.)
