Volunteers’ Week – Carol Harrison, Receptionist

June 1, 2026 | Pippa Vincent-Cooke

1-7 June is Volunteers Week and we are featuring some of our amazing volunteers all week on the blog and social media. Carol Harrison is a member of our team of volunteer receptionists.

  1. How long have you been a volunteer at BMSTC?

Approximately 8 years.

  1. Why did you decide to become a volunteer at BMSTC?

I became a volunteer at BMSTC because helping others has always been important to me. I used to work as a nurse, so caring for people is something very close to my heart. My father had MS, and seeing the challenges he faced gave me a deeper understanding of how much support and compassion can make a difference in someone’s life. Volunteering at BMSTC allows me to use my experience and empathy to support others going through difficult times.

  1. What do you enjoy most about volunteering? What benefits have you experienced personally?

I absolutely love talking to all the members and finding out about their lives and interests. I like to feel that I can make some small difference by helping in any way I can – be that proof reading a grant request, answering the phone , checking in on the members or just making cups of tea / coffee. I try to approach every task with the same level of enthusiasm and a smile! I love being part of a caring team and feel a very valued member. Working at the Centre has increased my confidence and resilience and given me a strong sense of purpose.

  1. Would you recommend volunteering at BMSTC to others?
I would absolutely recommend anyone to volunteer at the Centre.
  1. What would you say to anyone thinking about becoming a volunteer at BMSTC?
If you  become a volunteer for BMSTC you will join an amazing team and feel personally valued. I love working there and am sure anyone who joins us would feel the same.
