There are big changes to voting this year

Local elections are coming on 4 May. There are some changes this year with the introduction of Voter ID. 

Don’t forget, if you struggle to get to the voting booth you can request to vote via post. To request this, visit the Electoral Commission website, enter your postcode and it will tell you how to contact your local council. 

Voter ID 

The Electoral Commission has produced a series of booklets about Voter ID including the general ID booklet.

If you’re heading to your local elections on 4 May then you will need to bring photo ID with you to vote at the polling station. You may already have a form of photo ID that is acceptable. You can use any of the following:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence (including provisional license)
  • Blue badge
  • Certain concessionary travel cards
  • Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
  • Biometric Immigration document
  • Defence identity card
  • Certain national identity cards

Monday 17 April 

Tuesday 18 April

Applications for the following must be submitted by 5pm:

  • New postal votes and postal proxy votes
  • Changes to existing postal or proxy votes

Tuesday 25 April

Applications for the following must be submitted by 5pm:

  • Voter Authority Certificate
  • New applications to vote by proxy

Thursday 27 April

  • Earliest date for applications for replacements for lost postal votes

Thursday 4 May

  • Polling Day
